The Arc collection started with a shape and a colour. The half circle (Arc) and the colour black. I find a shape and a colour/colours a good starting point for a new collection. Most of my collections have started in a similar way.
The beginnings of a new collection can feel pretty daunting as I have no idea where the journey will take me. Being creative has a natural flow and it cant be forced, so sometimes new designs take time to come about. The most productive creative moments for me are when I'm really busy at the bench. Simple acts can enable new designs to unfold. The way I place a piece of silver on my benchpeg, the way things lie as they come out of the tumble polisher. Switching things around like the placement of an ear wire or jump ring.
Other ways a new collection progresses is through interaction with my customers, they ask for a slightly different design, or for a brooch set to be a pair of mis match earrings. These interactions are invaluable.
Gradually over many months the Arc collection grew through the exploration of a shape and colour. Combining semi precious beads alongside the geometric forms of the Arc shape has enabled a selection of one off necklaces. Some of the Arc designs have been coated with gold vermeil to add an extra dimension to the designs. I particularly love the combination of the black resin and the gold vermeil in the Arc drop earrings.
The development of the Arc collection will continue, I am constantly being inspired and am looking forward to seeing how the collection grows further.
